Offers fiddle tuition at four different ability levels as well as a singing class and an ensemble class.
The singing class and the ensemble class will each have one dedicated tutor for the duration of the Fiddle School.
It is always hard to properly assess which level will be the right for you.
The first day of the Fiddle School is almost an orientation day.
Our teachers will help you to find the right classes!
The Fiddle Classes
The intermediate, advanced and super-advanced fiddle classes will be taught, in rotation, by each of the four fiddle tutors. The basic fiddle class will have a dedicated tutor for the duration of the week as well as having lessons with the other three fiddle tutors.
NB! All fiddle classes in the fiddle school are limited to 22 students per class.
If any class exceeds this number, that class will be divided into a regular class and an upper level class.
Basic
For fiddlers who have been playing for a few years and who can play with three fingers in the first position. You should be able to learn simple tunes by ear and be able to play in the keys of G, D and A major.
Intermediate
For amateur fiddlers who have been playing for a few years or more and who are able to pick up tunes relatively quickly. You should be comfortable with most major and minor keys as well as third position. Your intonation should be fine and your groove should be steady.
Intermediate Up
The level of Intermediate Up is right in between of Advanced and Intermediate classes. This class will only take place in case Advanced and Intermediate classes are fully booked.
Advanced
For technically skilled and musical fiddlers who enjoy exploring the world of traditional music and who like to challenge and develop themselves as musicians. You should be a “fast learner” and be able to pick up challenging tunes by ear including bowings, expressions and ornaments. This class is also suitable for classically-trained players who are skilled in aspects other than learning by ear.
Super-advanced
The top level class is for music academy students and (semi)-professional musicians only, who pick up difficult tunes very quickly and have no technical boundaries. This class also focuses on understanding various styles of music, expression and ornamentations.
The other Classes
Cello class
The cello class is for skilled cello players who are able to pick up tunes, bass lines and harmonies by ear. The class focuses on melody playing, including bowings and ornamentations, as well as backing, including groove and harmonies. Some lessons might be divided into a regular and an upper level depending on the abilities of the students.
Ensemble
Mainly for backing instruments such as bass instruments, piano, harp, percussion, guitar and accordion, but the class also welcomes a number of brass and wood-wind players such as clarinet, flute and saxophone. The ensemble class will work with backing for the fiddle class repertoire as well as independent material. The instrumentation of the ensemble class can vary, but the number of pianists and bass players will be limited.
The ensemble course is not a beginners’ course and you need to be at an experienced level on your instrument.
Vocal
The vocal class focuses on singing technique, finding the power of the body, using different keys, shades of our natural voice and harmony singing. The repertoire is folk songs in Danish, Swedish, English or German as well as diddling traditions and the special ornamentations of traditional vocal music.
Only from the age of 12.
